Sacrament of the Eucharist

First Eucharist
This Sacrament is for children in grades three and up. Diocesan guidelines state that the children should have completed twenty hours, or one year of ongoing Catechesis, prior to the reception of this Sacrament. The church also encourages that the child has received the Sacrament of Penance before receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist.

There are six sessions, scheduled in three class times, to help you with this Sacrament.

The teachers/catechists will guide the parents in how to teach and form their own children in the faith. All the material and resources will be prepared for you and there will be an orientation session to familiarize you with the process. There are activities to do at home for review with online resources and videos that are engaging for both children and parents.

The six sessions, based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church focus on:

Leaning about what happens at Mass.
Learning the parts of the Liturgy.
Learning about our gifts and how to give them.
Praying the Eucharistic Prayer as a Family of God.
Holy Communion.
Learning to live what we believe as we are sent out to the world.

We will also have a Family Retreat on the Saturday before the celebration of First Eucharist.
